I haven't figured this out yet . . .
G decided to perform an act of neighborhood charity by cleaning the street gutters. He usually just picks up stray sticks, but on our daily chase G likes to stop in a small parking lot near the pool and look for other things to pick up. He recently found some dead foliage that collects in the gutters and insisted on loading up his truck and hauling it away.
This is an awesome opportunity for me to encourage him to help clean up the community. He loves picking up anything he finds. I’m going to invest in some gloves because he really likes to pick up cigarette butts and other garbage he finds.
I think most kids enjoy picking up garbage because I’ve seen other kids do it. Unfortunately, parents all too often discourage their children from picking up garbage and telling them to leave it where it is. Sure, garbage is dirty, but if they enjoy doing it so much, hand them some gloves and one of those garbage grabber sticks and start cleaning. It’ll teach them to care about their environment and to take care of it. There certainly doesn’t seem to be any harm in that.
